First of all, welcome to Awaken to Silence.
You may already know me from over at Co-Creation Coaching, where I’ve been blogging on the law of attraction for over 2.5 years now.
I’d like to give a bit of an introduction about why I’m here and what the purpose of this blog is.
The Source of All Happiness
I’ve been interested in non-duality since I was 12 years old, when I had my first real non-dual experience. Over the years the reality of who we really are has made itself clearer and clearer.
The law of attraction, as I see it, lies on the surface. While it does reflect a real principle of the Universe, the way it is commonly described is mere ego candy. It draws in those who just want to fix their lives, or get nice things, or change something out there so they can be happy.
The truth of the matter is that all happiness comes from the Silence—the Awareness—that you really are. And when you are tapped into that, then the reflections in the world often become more pleasant. But when we get attached to those reflections, or try to create one reflection over another, then we are attached to the stories, and that innate happiness is covered over.
I created this blog as a place to explore these deeper truths. Some are ready to go beyond the law of attraction, and others are not.
Therefore, this is my branching off point. I’m sharing the next level of my understanding concerning the nature of reality and who we are.
I call this Awaken to Silence, because the best name I can come up for our true nature is Silence. It is that which is beyond all sound, beyond all experience, beyond all thoughts. It is that from which all things arise, and into which they dissolve again.
Why We Are Here
I think the central delusion of those attempting to use the law of attraction is that the Universe absolutely and always wants us to have our desires. If you want more money, then the Universe wants you to have more money, too. If you want a great relationship, then the Universe also wants you to have a great relationship.
If you could look at this from an objective standpoint, this seems pretty egocentric. It’s an extremely intoxicating idea for the ego, and so it wants to embrace it fully.
But once this philosophy is actually applied, it starts to fall apart at the seams.
It is said, if you want money, and the Universe wants you to have money, then the only thing keeping you from having money is your own subconscious beliefs to the contrary.
And so to get to that place of having more money, it is said that you have to let go of those contradicting subconscious beliefs.
There’s a lot of truth to this, but only partially.
From this perspective, here’s how the Universe sees your situation:
He wants more money. I’m going to try to send him more money, but look, he’s blocking it. I’d love him to have more money, but can’t do anything about it until he releases those pesky beliefs. Then he can be happy and have all the money he wants.
In reality, the Universe is closer to this:
He wants more money, because he thinks it’ll bring him happiness. Oh, that’s just perfect, because the more he seeks for money, the more he’ll see that it’s empty and can’t provide the happiness he wants. I’ll send some experiences his way to show him how suffering can only result from looking for happiness on the outside. This will be a great opportunity for greater freedom!
So my point is, the Universe isn’t waiting around for you to drop your beliefs so it can send you all the things you ever wanted. It’s more like the Universe is nudging you towards greater and greater freedom, and using your personal attachments and aversions to show you where true happiness rests: within the Self, free of all desires.
Then yes, something wonderful often starts to happen once you drop those attachments and desires: the money comes anyway, because it’s no longer needed. But it didn’t come because you wanted it, it came because the Abundance you already are attracted it to you, only after you realized you didn’t need it after all.
There is a tendency for the Universe to find ways to delight and please us, but only after we’ve dropped the attachment to those things. It won’t satisfy the ego by giving financial abundance when the ego desires abundance.
But this tendency has been turned into a universal law, and millions of people are trying to fulfill their egoic desires using that supposed law. But now you can see why that doesn’t work, and why it’s only a dead end, often resulting in greater suffering, because there were only empty promises.
All Fulfillment Is In Silence
The setup of this entire dream—this whole illusion—is to nudge us to realizing the Freedom we already are—to realize the Silence upon which the images of the apparent world are projected.
The world is the greatest teacher, because it pushes our buttons, shows us where we are still holding on, and won’t let us forget until finally, we let go and rest as that Silence which has always been right here.
That feeling of striving within you is just the ego, believing that it needs something to be complete. If you see that striving in your own life, to find happiness—to seek for completeness—to be satisfied at last—know that it is a fruitless effort, because there is nothing out there that can possibly end that striving.
That striving will end only when you realize that there was never anything to strive for—that there was even no one ever here to strive in the first place—that all that ever existed was Silence.
Then the striving will melt away into that Silence. Experiences will be seen to come and to go, effortlessly and without attachment or aversion. The present moment will be accepted in its fullness and perfection.
How About You?
Now it’s your turn. Have you been disappointed by the promise of having anything you want, only to realize that this desire only came from ego, which can never be satisfied? Please let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
